
RedR Indonesia in collaboration with BPBD Sleman, Forum PRB DIY, and Unicef Indonesia completed the workshop on Problem Checklist of Merapi Contingency Plan in Sleman District in order to respond towards the findings on the field during the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on village level, held from July to August 2019. The workshop was held in Moro Lejar Restaurant, Sleman on 22 – 23 of October 2019 as a part of Update Merapi Contingency Plan of Sleman District which started since June 2019 and expected to complete on April 2020.

Three main speakers were actively delivering presentations and involved in a lively discussion with the workshop’s participants. The three speakers are: Ibu Novi kumalasari M.Si – Kasie Kebutuhan dan Potensi Sumberdaya, Deputi Pencegahan, BNPB Jakarta – who presented the methodology and mechanism of contingency plan drafting; Dr. Agus Budi – Kepala Seksi Merapi, BPPTKG DIY – who discussed about the Merapi eruption threat scenario; and Bapak Makwan S.TP, MT. – who Kepala Bidang II Kedaruratan dan Logistik, BPBD Sleman – explained upon the disaster management policy in Sleman District. Issues related to children, vulnerable group and the fulfilment rights of disaster affected communities as well as the available facilities and infrastructure became one of the most interesting topics during discussion session.
On the first day, there were 60 participants attended the workshop which are further divided into 6 groups, namely: group 1 (assembly point, evacuation, and safety), group 2 (Post/SKPDB), group 3 (shelter, public kitchen, logistic, and sanitation), group 4 (economy), group 5 (health), and group 6 (education). Each group discussed about the problem inventory listed on the form and the possible solutions. Furthermore, the participants were successfully identified the possible solutions as according to the existing SOP of each government sector.

On the second day, there were 49 people participated to continue the discussion and presentation of the problem list assessment. The workshop began with presentations of results from the day one discussion. Each group was presenting their offered solutions and getting feedback from other participants. On the second session, the participants were divided into 5 groups: group 1 (infrastructure and basic public service), group 2 (environment), group 3 (government service), group 4 (economy), and group 5 (population). Each group discussed and mapped out the impact assumptions of each sector.

This workshop was attended by Region Government Organization/Organisasi Perangkat Daerah (OPD) of Sleman District, Hospitals Representative in Sleman, District Police of Sleman, Military District Command 0732 Sleman, Universities Representative, Children Organization, Disabled Organization, Tourism Sector Representative, and the Village Government of the Disaster-prone Area III Merapi. During the workshop, the participants were carefully listing the existing resources of each institution, confirming their commitment and strengthening their coordination in order to fulfil the needs of resources during emergency as according to their duties and functions. The results of this workshop will be used as an input in updating the document of Merapi contingency plan of Sleman District.
